***** When reading this article, please keep in mind the following meanings:
Claim = term used when referring to the claim that L&I manages in CAC.
Case = term used when referring to your window of interest on the claim.
For example, the claim has been closed for a few days, but a protest has been filed, you still want the case to be open so you can look at it day to day. In this situation, it's right for the claim to be closed and the case to be open.
Claims that have been closed by L&I and are not yet final and binding (within the 65 days grace period after closure) can be found under the Claim Closeout tab:
When you see a claim on this tab, you can review it by clicking on the magnifying glass icon:
You can evaluate the activity since the day the claim was closed by L&I and make a decision whether you want to extend the case closure by 30 more days or you want to close the case in Gardiant Works:
Hover over the different icons to find out the type of activity.
You can differentiate between already completed and still due items by the color of the sections: blue for due, green for completed:
If there is a due task on a case, you will see an icon with the title and the due date in the Claim Closeout list under the Next Scheduled Task column:
If you don't take any action on a case, it will be automatically closed in Gardiant Works after 70 days.
Note: Even if you decide to close a case in Gardiant Works that does not mean that it will no longer get automatic CAC updates. The claim will still be in queue and continue to get updates every 30 days.
When you click on the Close Case Now button, a separate window will come up where you can enter the outcome and date:
If you extend the case closure in Gardiant Works by 30 days, the Extend 30 Days button will disappear and a message will display in its place to advise you how many total days the case has been extended. If you extend the case, but come to the conclusion that you do want to close the case, you can still do so by using the Close Case Now button:
You will see in the list the number of Days Until Case Close on extended cases in blue:
